What is Karnataka PGCET ?
Karnataka PGCET exam is a state level entrance test, conducted every year to shortlist candidates for admission to MCA programmes offered by Government / University/ Private Aided / Private Un-Aided professional educational institutions situated in the state of Karnataka. The scores of Karnataka PGCET will be accepted by as many as 178 participating institutes. The scores obtained in Karnataka PGCET exam will remain valid for one calender year.

Karnataka PGCET Eligibility Criteria
- Candidate must have passed his/her Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a recognized Board or University.
- For MCA programme, candidate must have passed his/her Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics or Computer Science or Statistics or computer programming or Computer Application or Business statistics or Business Mathematics as one of the optional subjects.
- Candidate must have obtained minimum aggregate of 50% marks taken together in all subjects in all years of degree exam. In case of ST/SC and Category-1 of Karnataka, qualifying marks are 45%.

Karnataka PGCET exam pattern for MCA
The question paper for MCA of Karnataka PGCET exam will be divided into two parts. Part A will have 60 questions while Part B will carry total 20 questions. The paper will have total 100 questions and total marks of the test is 100. Questions will be objective type. The duration of test is 150 minutes. Each question in Part A carries one mark. The questions in Part B will be for two marks. There is no negative marking.The distribution of Karnataka PGCET question paper will be based on the following pattern with a variation of 5 to 10%.

Karnataka PGCET Exam Pattern – Important Points
- All questions asked in the exam are compulsory
- There is no choice among questions
- Candidates are advised to attempt all the questions to obtain maximum marks
- Candidates will not be given marks in case of multiple answers

Karnataka PGCET syllabus for MCA
Unit-1: Mathematics
Algebra : Fundamental operations in Algebra, Expansion, Factorization, Simultaneous Linear / Quadratic equations, Indices, Logarithms, Arithmetic, Geometric and Harmonic progressions, Binomial Theorem, Permutations and Combinations, Determinants, Matrices, Sets and application to solution of simultaneous linear equations.
Co-Ordinate Geometry: Rectangular Cartesian co-ordinates, Equations of Line, Mid-point, Intersections etc, Equations of a Circle, Distance formulae, Pair of straight lines, Parabola, Ellipse and Hyperbola, Simple Geometric transformations such as Translation, Rotation, Scaling.
Boolean algebra: Basic operations, Evaluation of Boolean expressions, Basic postulates of Boolean Algebra.
Trigonometry: Simple identities, Trigonometric equations, Properties of Triangles, Inverse function. Probability and Statistics: Basic concept of Probability theory, Averages, Dependent and Independent events, Frequency distributions and measures of dispersions, Skewness and Kurtosis, Correlation and Regression, Random variables.
Unit-2: Computer Awareness Computer
Basics: Organization of a computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Input /Output devices, Computer Memory, Programming Languages, Types of Software’s, General awareness about Internet, Web Applications, Database Applications and Information Systems.
Data Representation: Representation of Characters, Integers and Fractions, Binary, ASCII and Hexadecimal representations.
Binary Arithmetic: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Two’s complement arithmetic, Floating-point representation of numbers, normalized Floating-point representation.
Operating Systems: Evolution of operating systems, types of operating systems, functions of an operating system, modern operating systems.
Unit-3: Analytical Ability and Logical Reasoning
The questions in this unit cover Logical Reasoning, Quantitative reasoning and Visuo-spatial reasoning.
Unit-4: General Awareness
This unit carry questions to test the general awareness about Business, Finance, Industry, Transportation, Scientific inventions, Governance, Healthcare and Cultural dimensions etc.
Unit-5: General English
The questions in this part covers basic English grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, synonyms, antonyms, sentence correction, word & phrases, jumbled paragraph.
